Tuesday night knitting & some b-day stuff

Alex and Olivia decided they wanted to make something special for me. So they got me all set up in my room with a movie, popcorn, a drink and my knitting. I was supposed to stay in there until the movie was over. They called me out much later and both looked upset. They had tried to make M&M cookies like I do. They got out my recipe and did everything on it but had no idea what went wrong. As soon as I saw the cookie pan I knew what had happened. Some how between the both of them, they forgot flour. Both were very disappointed, Alex even mumbled something about how he ruined my birthday. I kept telling him that was not true and it was very sweet that they had tried to make me cookies. They went to play at the neighbor's while I was in the bath. Later Eli came back telling me how sleepy he was and wanted me to nap with him, so we went to my room. He popped up about 1 minute later and said he needed a drink and would be right back. The three of them came back carrying the above cake, it had some candles and everything. My wonderful neighbor had helped them bake me a birthday cake. I just love my neighbors! Ila got me the coolest notebook ever! Eli got me the sheep measuring tape.
This is the close up of the project bag Lora made me.

Ruth made me a beautiful row counter bracelet.
While out shopping with daddy, Olivia saw this green dictionary and thought I could use a new one. I use my dictionary on a daily basis, so it was really cool of her to think of that.

Look Tabitha is back! She got me a very neat trapper keeper to try and organize all of my knitting patterns. It is much better than the ones I use to have in school.

Really, already?

I cannot believe that my birthday is here already. I think it came faster this time. I have had birthday issues for quite sometime now. I don't know if it is rooted in the years that were spent as a Jehovah's Witness (no birthdays are ever celebrated) or the fear of getting old. Not older, just old. I knit with some wonderful people, several of them are much younger. It is not their fault, but they make me feel old. It does not help that my 20 year high school reunion is in a few weeks. Has it really been that long? Oh and before I get lots of comments saying I should go, this is a relatively small town and I see people I went to school with all the time.
Or maybe I always thought I would be in a different place by the time I was xx years old. Maybe if things were easier ( I know, no one said things would be easy) I would feel better about where I am now and what I am doing. I know that knitting has saved my sanity on many occasions. Birthdays always seem like such a bust. Lots of hoopla then the feeling of, is that it?? I'm not quite sure what I expect though.

My birthday has always been a big reminder that summer is almost over, and school is right around the corner. Now days that is not such a bad thing. I am ready for them to get back to school and have some order in what they do. The kids certainly need to see some other children on a regular basis, I know they are tired of looking at each other.

Ok, feeling really sorry for myself now, need to stop.

Nothing more to see here..... move along

I need some new yarn.

I can't believe that I helped Lora be able to leave. What was I thinking??!! My very handy hubby (along with Lora's dad) was able to get the Kinbergermobile back on it's tires. So now it will carry them all away...far away.

Tuesday night knitting

We are back to our old stomping grounds for a couple months. Our regular place has closed and will reopen in September in a new and hopefully bigger location. I do not think Sunergos was ready for us last night. It is Lora's last Tuesday night knitting with us, so it brought out a few knitters we have not seen in a long time. Look it's Stacy....she's knitting and pregnant. She has an almost one year old dd at home.
Before it was all said and done we had somehow ran off at least two tables of people. But you know we needed those table for the 16 of us anyway. We had so much fun, but it was also a little sad. I hate to see Lora leave.
The blue elephant belongs to Ruth. Lora holding a b-day present.

Look at that leg isn't it gorgeous?! The sock is nice too.
On Wednesdays Nicole does pottery. I love the yarn bowl she made.
I have a new LoraK project bag. I'll have to get a better pic for you. The elephants are drinking martinis.
Kristie's daughter is modeling the fingerless mitts.

Here is a small herd of elephants. It was suggested that I stick eyes on mine and call it done.

From the left:Loretta, Lora, Nicole, Ila mine is sitting on the head. I hope to have a head and ears to put on the body very soon.
Boy we were a big group last night.

Did you get carded?..No..Me neither.......

Lora and I went out last night. We went to My Bar, not your bar, My Bar.
It was filled with a very eclectic crowd. You had your random dirty old man, in athletic shorts and tennis shoes. He ogled all of the young girls there, tried to get all the women present to dance with him. Two young women took the very harmless "girls dancing together" to a new level. I think a few of the guys were channeling John Travolta (very badly).
We weren't sure which show to watch. The one on stage or behind the bar. The bartenders were right out of Cocktail, but much better.

Throwing ice in the air and catching it in the shakers, juggling 4 or 5 shakers at once, flipping bottles here and there. They were all over the place.
This women was having what we decide to call a "drum ride". Yes, she is sitting on the drummers lap while he plays. It was a sight to see. I got her email and sent her the picture.

The singer is a long time friend of Brent & Lora. I saw him last summer when Lora was home.
Check out Lora's blog for a video of Strumbeat.

Tuesday night knitting

Two weeks of Tuesday night knitting. Who is that smiling knitter??? It is my wonderful friend Lora home for a visit. I am so happy that she is here. So far we have had two knitting nights together and a night out on the town. A very late night out on the town.
Here is a work in progress for my swap on a budget partner.
Ila, Loretta and Tabitha in the background. She came with Tasha on her first knit night with us. Tasha is in the first pic, she is intently watching Lora knit.
Look at what a big group we had. There were 10 of us.

When we got to Quill's a sign was on the door saying that they were closing at 3:00 pm and in a week they would be closed for good. So we had to hurry and find a place to go. We ended up at a local Qudoba's. It was ok for that day but the parking is terrible on that street and the place was very loud. An echoing kind of loud.

Last of the fun in the sun.

I have wanted to go to this museum for a long time. I love the idea of finding sunken treasure. Mel Fisher is a very well known treasure hunter.I got myself a little bottle of gold from the gift shop. Olivia got a map of the treasure spots off the coast of Florida and further south. Some of the locations are really close to the beach. We saw a boat anchored right off the beach. We brought the binoculars the next day and could see the divers and the dredging tools. We went to the Sebastian, Florida location. It was great. Can you imagine finding this emerald ring? Wow, if you noticed I could have brought it home for a mere $61,000.

The wedding chain had a great story about how the bride and groom had the chain around the waist during the ceremony.

I got to knit with my mom's group! I met them at the local Panera Bread. It was lots of fun despite the serious thunderstorm that was going on. Alright here goes, Vicky is next to Irene, Sue and Kathy are the pic above, Karen was knitting a wonderful lace project. (thank you Vicky!) Yes, those are raindrops all over Irene's shirt.
June is on the left. Yep that is Olivia in the corner. She thought is was really neat to meet Mimi's knitting friends. They were a wonderful group of ladies.
I knit with a few of them again the next night at the food court in the local mall.

This guy was in the dumpster at the condo. He looked very young. We propped the lid open just a little, hoping he would be able to escape. When we got back from the beach the dumpster was totally empty, the garbage man had been there. I told the kids that we are going to believe that the raccoon got out and is just fine.
My cousin Dakota caught this lizard. Boy they are fast! When Eli tried to hold it, he got bitten for his trouble. It was ok though, this color is not one of the poisonous ones.
These beautiful tiles surround the water fountain where the kids played.
I would love to have one of these as a table top.
