In my neighborhood #3 ....

Two from me in the same day, aren't you lucky!

Just a block or so from Grinny Possum you can find Art and Soul Beads. It is a wonderful bead shop where you can learn to make your own jewelry or have some custom designed.
She has buttons too, I love buttons, . This is the "new" mom & pop kind of store. Not only are mom & pop there, but the kids are too. I can call them kids because I know I am much older than both of the daughters. I enjoyed a wonderful class there last Wednesday. I want to learn to make my own stitch markers. I have to say that beads could become just as addictive as yarn. Enough talk, let me take you to the door..

a

Last time I was in I had to take all three of the kids. Not the way I like to look at beads but...It's not that they are bad, they just love all the colors, textures and sparkly things. Olivia left with enough letter beads to make a bracelet with her name, Alex had to add to his animal collection and I don't remember what Eli came home with that day.

Hope you enjoyed another look into my neighborhood.

In my neighborhood...Just down the street and take a left

The Howard Steamboat Museum
I was in the History Club in middle school, I know so were the other geeks. But it was really lots of fun. We took a special tour through the museum. The museum was a stop on the underground railroad. There is a tunnel from the cellar of the mansion that leads to the bank of the Ohio river. In the cellar there are also a few jail cells that usually held drunken sailors. It is a great place to take older kids that know to "look with your eyes not your hands"

Near my neighborhood.....

The Falls of the Ohiois one of my favorite places. My family came here all the time. Bike rides, hikes and picnics. We even got a few pieces of driftwood and some river rock. Now taking driftwood and rocks will get you tossed in jail and a fine. When I came here as a child it was just grass, trees, rocks and the river. The Interpretive Center is a great place to learn about the history of the river and what type of aquatic life it sustains. Now and in the past. The river has been very high the past few weeks so you will have to wait for a picture of the fossil beds and really cool rock formations. The kids and I love to go walking and climbing over the rocks and looking for some fossils. It is also a good lesson on taking care of the environment and why rivers are so important. You have to be careful though, you never know what may go floating by on the Ohio River.

I will have to try to get a picture of the clock at night. It glows red and you
can tell the time for miles away. I will have some knitting stuff in the next day or so. Until next time....

Near my neighborhood.....

There is this wonderful little ice cream house in the next town, Widows Walk. It looks like it has been there for a long time but it was built just a few years ago. The towns are close, so my house is probably 4 miles away. We love to go there in the summer and enjoy the view. They have a little rock and statute garden to walk through. The 2nd floor is for adult enjoyment only. A nice place to sit and relax, eat your ice cream and look out at the river. I guess they think kids will spoil the view. We like to eat at the picnic table in the garden.

In my neighborhood #2...

This little bakery is on the main drag of downtown Jeffersonville. A block or so from the corner barber and the court house. It has always been a bakery. It hasn't always been Jeff's Bakery. For awhile it was Bakers Bakery and before that it was Krall's Bakery. I remember going with my grandparents to get the yeast dinner rolls when it was Krall's. We always had those for the big holidays. From what I have found out it has been a bakery for at least the past 50 years. Jeff's Bakery has the very best Long Johns. Not the ones filled with stuff. Many people like that type but we like the plain or unfilled kind.
Until next time...

Inside the Possum...

I promised you a look at the goodies inside Grinny Possum, so here it is.
There is so much color everywhere you look that it can be hard to know where
to look first. Ann spins also so my kids always want to come with me because they might get the chance to watch her spin. I on the other hand, like to look at yarn all by myself. Towards the back of the shop is the table where you can sit, talk, knit and take a class or two. Oh, there is always some chocolate to be had somewhere on the table.

In my neighborhood...

I want to share a little of the neat things that are in and around Jeffersonville.
So every few days a new picture and story will appear.
Today's picture is.. Schimpff's Confectionery Schimpff's is a wonderful place. You can walk through and watch the candy makers at work. I find it really neat that there are teenagers making candy right along side grey haired senior citizens. The top photo is where the candy is made, further back is the candy museum. The bottom photo is the store. Go inside to buy some of the wonderful candy or have a seat at one of the small tables and oder a sandwich, soup or ice cream. Don't forget to get a real vanilla or chocolate coke. Take a minute or two and check out their website. The candy store has been in the same location since 1891.
The Grinny Possum, pictured below, is in my neighborhood too.
Until next time...

A prevention plan and some other stuff.

I made a plan. The first mitt is ready for the thumb to be started. So I went out and bought another set of size 5 dpns and am going to cast on the second mitt at knitting tonight. Maybe this will prevent the possibility of "one mitten syndrome"
If you are just lovin the yarn on the banner as much as I do, then here is some info.
It is James C. Brett Rio, label says KER Rio 06 Garden machine washable 80%acrylic 20% wool, 232 yard skein. Not quite sure yet what I am going to make with it.
I had Eli and my nephew Noah at Pizza Hut yesterday. Eli was enjoying the all you can eat pizza buffet. I was knitting while they finished up and Noah said "Aunt Sonna you a good hat maker". He is so sweet! I will have to make him a new hat. The one in the picture a few posts back is too small now.
I have a few pictures to share. This is the front of the LYS Grinny Possum
Tomorrow I will show you all of the goodies on the inside.
Until next time...
